![]() And PS+ not only gave the game to a large group of people for “free”, it’s also marketing because the game was up there for a month along with only one other game.Īlso, the reason I’m tired of hearing that response is because it’s never followed up with an actual idea of how to save this game. ![]() Just look at psyonix’s prior game and how that was basically a failure even though it had a ton of similarities to rl. ![]() A game like rl (or knockout city) is a hard sell because they’re unlike any other games. If rogue company costed ANY amount of money, I 100% believe it would’ve died a while ago.Īs for rocket league, now I know a lot of people might disagree with me here, but I think a big part of rocket league’s success was being a PS+ game right off the bat. That game isn’t particularly popular, but because it’s free to play there’s always at least enough players for the game to be enjoyable, which makes the more hardcore fans spend money on it, which allows the game to continue to get support in the form of consistent content and updates. In another comment, I used rogue company as an example. It needs essentially a relaunch of the game, which with going free to play could get a large amount of people to try it and stick with it or at least play it every once in a while with their friends. Adding content, fixing problems, these things aren’t going to get the game anywhere at this point. Wait with those last comments were you responding to someone else? Cause I never said the devs do a bad job, in fact that’s kind of my point. Obviously lots of generalizations there, but hopefully you get the point I’m trying to make. I think rogue company is a decent example of a game with a relatively small player base, but enough of one to make it easy enough to find an enjoyable match, which makes the hardcore fans continue paying for skins and whatnot, which in turn keeps the game supported with updates and content, which then keeps people playing, so on and so forth. They just need to keep the player base high enough that the game is enjoyable for everyone and the biggest fans will be the ones to monetarily support the game. So the new players wouldn’t necessarily be giving that much money, but they don’t need to. Right now the player base is dwindling so no one really gets a great experience playing and no one is buying it, and this cycle won’t stop unless they make some big changes. Not saying new players wouldn’t, but it’s the hardcore fans that typically spend a lot of money. The people on this sub are the type of people who would be spending money because they enjoy the game that much. Not to say the game wouldn’t need another marketing campaign as well, but free to play could potentially be the extra push the game needs.Īs for monetization I also agree, but I think free to play helps this as well. Free to play would undoubtedly get more people to play, and if people like it, word of mouth will help market it. Would you pay 60$ for a game that you'd play 30h ? 4 Millions players said "Yes" to that with "The Last of Us 2".Īnyway, good video, good analysis, wrong conclusions.ġ00% agree that people not knowing about it is part of the problem, but I think free to play makes it more easily marketable and makes a larger group of people pay attention. I'm sorry, but, money wise, that's way under TONS of games. ![]() So more costs, less income for a long while.Īnd 20$ for a game with "limited replayability" when the guy talking says "after a few hundred games played, the game becomes boring". Players won't pay money for a free to play game until they spent a lot of time in it. And it would also be hindered by other elements you described, i.e. You'd need to overhaul the whole system to deny most if not all cosmetics from free to play players. In order for the F2P model to bring in money, you need strong incentives for people to do pay for it. That is not something that Knockout City can afford.Īnd about the "looking stylish" will bring money to the game, that is also flatout false. The only way to play ranked in CS:GO is now to pay a fee, either to Valve or to third party servers (Face-It). And for that to go away you need to add additionnal development time to find solutions for it and make sure the game doesn't become "Botting City" instead.ĬS:GO did something about it back in June. Smurfs plaguing ranked matches, making it impossible to match similar skilled players together. Those are 2 F2P games that are going dwindling because they are free to play with no restriction. You lost me when you failed to distinguish between EA and Velan.Īnd then you threw the "if the game was free to play it would be better".
